Ross Rankin Imagine Wine interview for Mac
Ross Rankin This month we feature Ross Rankin from Imagine Wines. Ross covers many aspects of what is involved with becoming a winemaker and the legal issues most people are unaware of. Why can't you give wines to charities? What is a 1720? What can you do to reduce the amount of water when preparing your barrels? For any new winemaker or someone who wants to get into the industry, this is the one video you must watch.

Update in the news regarding this interview. Wines and Vines reported this juicy tidbit.

The real treat is that now we have included the Windows Media Video version as well as Quicktime. For future reference all videos will be available in both formats.
We've also noticed some of you are having problems with Internet Explorer, try the Firefox web browser instead, download it for free here.

For all our other video interviews head on over to the Screening Room.

March 20

On May 1 and 2 Bridlewood Estate Winery is hosting an invitation-only winemaking symposium about Syrah. syrah symposiumA good idea too on many levels, before that movie came out we were watching a resurgence of Rhones in Santa Barbara spearheaded by the likes of Bridlewood with their limited production "flavour profiled" syrah's. It seems the list of participants is limited, possibly due to scheduling but should realistically be all encompassing. Beckmen and Zaca Mesa are both attending and are both solid Rhone producers, Fess Parker is listed as too are Palmeri from Geyserville.
No idea of the order of events and things but I'd like to see a serious discussion about the merits of syrah from SRH and SYV and SMV and any research done on the peppery over jammy over spicy. David Hopkins is also the master of barrel use when it comes to developing the unique properties in his syrah.

Last year the Festive 30 caused a flood of response, a lot of people wanted to know what was not on the list as well. So what we thought was to periodically add a list of wines tasted that are ones to look for. The Tasting Notes page, as you have all figured out are wines we feel are able to evoke other sensations.
This list of wines are what Santa Barbara is about: good, solid, delicious and representative of the quality and variety we find here every day.

March 1
This is going to be a busy month, there is a book review in the Foreign Office. Wines of Malta might be a surprising choice but this is a suprising book.
Some serious tastings have been going on so in the next few days you'll find some suggestions for bottles to get a hold of.
There is a possibility of another video being posted this month too.
Many wineries have been busy bottling their wines in the past month while other winemakers have been busy selecting their wines of choice to take to Hospice this year.
More great videos have been filmed and are waiting to be edited, so if there are any requests for winemakers who have yet to be featured drop us a line.
