10 of the latest eye catchers.
Hallauer 2003 cabernet franc, Santa Ynez Valley. 13.8% alc. Cab franc is getting more difficult to find these days, this is worth tracking down, it generally runs less than $20 too.
Tensley 2003 syrah, Thompson Vineyard, Santa Barbara County. 14.1% alc. Drinking nice right now if you have any left.
Bedford Thompson 2001 petite sirah, Santa Barbara County. 13.9% alc. Start looking for petite sirah, you won't be disappointed with a good piece of steak, it's still a big wine.
Kenneth-Crawford 2004 syrah, Purisima Mountain Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley. 15.4% alc. These guys make some killer wines and this one from Beckmen's vineyard on Ballard Canyon is no exception.
Barrel 27 2005 "Head Honcho" syrah, Santa Barbara County. 15.4% alc.
Get to know these guys Mac is Rhone to the bone and Russel's Herman Story syrah won the syrah shootout at Hospice du Rhone this year, put these guys together and you get this beauty.
J. Wilkes 2003 pinot noir, Bien Nacido Vineyrds, Santa Barbara County, 215 cases, Block Q. 13.7% alc. Because you can never have enough J. Wilkes in your collection, this is a perpetual classic.
Cold Heaven 2003 syrah, "Second Sin" Santa Barbara County. Alc 13.5% alc. Morgan's skill lies in her viognier but this one went under every radar and I suggest you start drinking more of this juice and it's under 14, can't say that about many Rhones these days.
Foxen 2004 Cuvee Jeanne Marie, Williamson-Dore Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley. 14% alc. Just a lovely everyday wine, will please everyone.
Carr 2005 pinot noir Turner Vineyard, Santa Rita Hills. 14% alc. Haven't seen Ryan for a while but when you taste this pinot you might get an idea of how busy he was making this stunning pinot, totally unexpected from a relatively unknown vineyard.
Kenneth-Crawford 2005 pinot noir Babcock Vineyard, Santa Rita Hills. 14.6% alc. Again, when these guys get access to great fruit, they do know how to make a great wine. There's never enough of their stuff to go around, I'd recommend drinking a bottle of their wine every day.
